My Trip to Europe in 1926

Paris

I'm in front of the Louvre. My mother wrote the date on the back of the snapshot, March 1, 1927.
I guess we spent a month in Paris. My mother told me years later that my favorite place in Paris was a department store where a man dressed as Puss n' Boots stood in front to attract attention to a sale. He was an American, an ex-navy man, she said. Whenever we were near the store I would beg her to let me go see him.
He would hoist me in his arms and we would talk... probably the only person in Paris I could understand, or could understand me.

A month later we were in Juan les Pains on the French Riviera and I climbed in a boat.  Notice I have yet to smile.
