Captain
Visser was born and raised in Amsterdam. Descending from a family with a long
proud maritime history there was never any question about Pieter's future
career.
After completing his studies at the Dutch Naval Academy, he served for 32 years
as a naval officer and in some instances as a commanding officer allowing him
the opportunity to sail around the world. After resigning at an early age, he
began missing the sea and in October 2001 joined Holland America. As a
Naval Reserve Officer he is entitled to fly a special Dutch flag with the Naval
insignia.
