The Statendam Infirmary
All Holland America Line ships have an on-board infirmary staffed by a doctor and three registered nurses. On our December 3, 2001 cruise the doctor was James Kelly, M. D. and the nurses were lead nurse Cindy Conley; and Anne Miskelly, and Gertie Williams. The doctors serve under a contract with Holland America, but the nurses are employees.
The infirmary is well-equipped to handle most emergencies and routine medical procedures. It includes an Intensive Care Unit and cardiac monitoring equipment in the event of an emergency. In addition to helping passengers, they see the crew every day.
