San Francisco and thereabout 1902
The City Hall took
some twenty years to build and collapsed in twenty seconds on April 18, 1906.
The main part is the lofty dome at left with the Goddess of Progress at the
peak. The head is now in the San Francisco City Hall.
The building in the foreground was the Hall of Records which was little damaged,
however the fire destroyed the contents. Historic municipal bonds were saved by
the treasurer and moved to safety.
